Scott is a multi award-winning artist and his works continue to receive attention and
recognition from varied local, national and international art communities. He has been
honored with the 2003 CIPPY trophy and top award at the Colored Pencil Society of
America’s 11th annual international juried exhibition and the 2004 Artist’s Magazine
Award for Exceptional Merit at the 12th annual exhibition. His work has been published
in The Artist’s Magazine, International Artist and American Artist. Until recently, Scott’s
work consisted solely of works in the colored pencil medium. He now splits his time
between oil paint and colored pencil finding in both mediums the ability to achieve the
detail and richness for which he strives
Scott now devotes his full attention to his art career and developing a fine art business.
Before embarking on this endeavor, he has studied and practiced architecture for fifteen
years. Though he is primarily self-trained in fine art, he did receive some formal training
and education during his architectural studies at Lawrence Technological University.
Born in South Bend, Indiana, Scott moved around quite a bit as he grew up. In 1981, his
family finally settled down in the Philadelphia suburb of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Upon
high school graduation, Scott attended Michigan State University where he received a
BA in Communications. He also met his wife of 16 years, Nina at MSU. Scott and Nina,
along with their daughters Katie and Allison now live in Grosse Pointe Woods,
Michigan.
Though embarking on a full artistic career later in life, his passion for creating and
studying fine art has been with him since childhood. Finding early inspiration from the
classical masters with a deep admiration for their works, he endeavors to create depth
and emotion as they did. With the use of full value ranges and strong contrast, along
with attention to intricate detail, he strives to achieve a sense of reality that will draw the
observer into the scene.
“I attempt to achieve a subject-based composition and to craft a story within the picture,
typically invoking a sense of somberness and solitude. My approach and technique is
very representational which serves to create the intimate feeling and emotion that I
seek. I find it important to use gradual and subtle changes through a full range of
values and contrasting elements to generate the sense of atmosphere, depth and light
required to truly define a realistic setting and bring it to life.”
